Effective Feedback

Success Criteria for Effective Feedback

  • Feedback is most effective when it points out strengths in the work and gives guidance for improvement (Chappuis, 2012)
  • Can only follow clear learning goals and success criteria
  • Must occur during the learning, not long after (Wiggins, 2012)
  • Must be clear and in student friendly language (Wiggins, 2012)
  • Allows for the student to see their mistakes, but does not do the thinking for the student (Chappuis, 2012)
  • Must include positive notes and next steps
  • Must be ongoing and consistent (Wiggins, 2012)
